Young Australian pianist Dillon Chan is achieving tremendous success in Australia and the world.
The Friends of Chopin Australia met Dillon in 2023 when we arranged Masterclasses for him (and some other young Australian pianists) with Japanese superstar pianist Kyohei Sorita, 2nd prize winner (ex aqueo) of the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2021.
Dillon's interpretation of Chopin's Nocturne in D-flat major, Op.27 No.2 left Kyohei speechless, remarking, "Your teacher has done a wonderful job. There is nothing more I can add to this".
12-year-old Melbourne-born pianist Dillon Chan studies under pianist Ian Munro. He also studies piano chamber music with pianist Caroline Almonte at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music’s Young Chamber Music Academy. A Year 8 student and music scholar at Camberwell Grammar School (CGS), Dillon has honed his chamber music skills through CGS’s Music Academy. Kingussie, his trio at CGS, recently earned the 3MBS Radio Award for Two Best Ensembles in Victoria at the “Strike a Chord” National Chamber Music Competition for Australian school students.
Among his achievements, recently Dillon has been selected to serve as a Young Ambassador for the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, and he has just won the 1st Prize (ex aequo) in the 4th Jeune Chopin Competition in Lugano, Switzerland, where Martha Argerich is the President of the jury. As a part of the prize, in September this year, Dillon and all first prize winners will be sponsored to give a concert in Warsaw with along with Bruce Liu, Gabriela Montero, Mischa Maisky, and Martha Argerich.
In addition, in 2022, Dillon won 1st prize at the 29th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Szafarnia, Poland. He was awarded 4th prize and a Special Commendation for Young Talents at the prestigious 19th Ettlingen International Piano Competition in Germany. And he won the 2021 Polish Music Competition Australia.

Otrzymał 4. nagrodę i Specjalne Wyróżnienie dla Młodych Talentów na prestiżowym 19. Międzynarodowym Konkursie Pianistycznym w Ettlingen w Niemczech. Wygrał także Polish Music Competition Australia w 2021 r.
